Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
